The lessons of service learned in Aquarius create the world Saviour in Pisces, we’re told. From another perspective, the past 2000 years of Pisces have prepared the way for service in Aquarius. Through all these centuries the influence of Pisces has been playing upon humanity, bringing about the demand for world adjustment, developing the international spirit, and laying the foundation for future synthesis in the Aquarian Age. The energies that have poured through Pisces have culminated in the dissolution of old forms of civilizations, of religious teaching that no longer serves the spiritual need of the people, and of educational processes that do not foster the evolving nature of the human being, Alice Bailey’s writings tell us. Disturbing and painful for some, there is a benign aspect to the current cycle of relinquishment and sacrifice, for “Death [in this case] is the Great Releaser which shatters the forms which are bringing death to that which is embodied”, she wrote. If only humans could look at what is occurring in the world through this perspective, there would be reason for hopeful expectancy of a better world to come, of release from old worn-out forms that have become imprisoning. And, because Pisces will continue to govern the present great astrological cycle of 25,000 years, its influence will remain, so it’s crucial that we understand the implications of this.
Some years ago, in his landmark book The Global Brain (originally published as The Awakening Earth in Britain), the author Peter Russell likened each human being to a cell in a global brain. Ecology was beginning to recognize that the Earth is a living system, a whole with many parts which must work together if harmony is to reign. In this integrated system humanity is the key factor, for its role as planetary Mediator is to provide for contact and exchange between all levels of life. This is a central concept of esoteric teaching, for “The human kingdom, through its peculiar and specific type of awareness, can relate the higher and lower expressions of divinity”, Alice Bailey wrote. “It is in this connection that Pisces is of much importance, as it is the sign of mediatorship”. Elsewhere she wrote, “The highest aspect of Pisces which humanity can at this time comprehend is that of Mediatorship…the energy of right relationship.” In the environmental crisis that’s waging today it is apparent that we still have much to learn if we are to attain true mediatorship, but steps are undeniably being taken. Scientific research into the animal and vegetable kingdoms, into the lives of birds and trees and other vegetation, is revealing new and surprising insights into the quality of their lives and the interrelationships that seem to sustain them.
“Every living thing or manifested life—from the planetary Logos down to the tiniest atom—either has been, is, or will be human…Therefore, the fact of humanity, and of that for which humanity stands is probably the primary and major aspect of the divine purpose”, Alice Bailey wrote. This should not be understood to indicate that man is unique, above all other kingdoms in the divine scheme, but that the human stage is crucial to evolution because it spans the gamut from the purely animal existence to that of the soul and, ultimately, to the epitome of the human/divine being, the Christ. The Christ consciousness is the highest aspect of Pisces energy, we’re told—the energy of buddhi, the aspect of the mediator, of right relationship with all that lives, above and below. All the great world Saviours are mediators, able to span all stages of existence in compassionate understanding and perception of need, not aliens who’ve suddenly been dropped into an unknown, utterly unfathomable land. As it was said of Christ, “he knew what was in man” because Christ himself was human and therefore able to perceive the innermost need to be met.
I leave the Father’s Home and turning back, I save is the keynote of Pisces, for it delineates the path travelled by the awakening soul. Born in the cave of the heart in Virgo, the polar opposite of Pisces, “Christ in you the hope of glory” is the Apostle Paul’s description of the power which drives the soul to progress through the cycle of reincarnation over and over again, until, through separation he finds himself and then—driven by the indwelling Christ or buddhic principle—transcends himself and finds himself again in all selves. Transcendent of the Jesus of Christianity and of all organized religions, the Christ principle is the universal salvaging power that redeems even the most benighted of lives. The task of Humanity as the middle or mediating kingdom is to serve as a conduit for this potential which is latent within all souls and the guarantee of the divine Presence of God Immanent within all forms. In group meditation let us deepen our understanding of this fundamental service.
