Gemini, depicted by the Twins, Castor and Pollux, is said to be the major symbol of duality in the zodiac. Through duality we gain a sense of the human psyche, which is both conflicting and evolutionary, generating the struggle expressed in the keynote for meditation at the full moon of Gemini—I recognize my other self and in the waning of that self, I grow and glow.
The powerful spiritual energies that pour into the world at the time of the full moon of Gemini stimulate human aspiration to reach its zenith, igniting a spirit of invocation or appeal to understand the Will of God, and to express that will on Earth through right human relationships—with our fellow human beings and further, with the subhuman kingdoms in the great chain of being. In this process Gemini serves as the divine Messenger, the intermediary between the poles of soul and form, between the mortal self or personality and the intermediary between the poles of soul and form, between the mortal self of personality and the immortal self or soul; and as the midway point in the distribution of spiritual energy to the three subhuman kingdoms—animal, vegetable, mineral.
When we look at the state of our planet and the various kingdoms with which our earthly home, this seems to be a “tall order”, but we are contemplating an evolutionary process in the fulfillment of the divine Plan for our world which is eions in duration. Humanity’s destined task, according to Alice Bailey, is to serve as the brain of God. So to speak, the many units being analogous to the brain cells in the human mechanism. “Through humanity, the nature of reality will be revealed”, we’re told. “The true and the beautiful will be manifested to all forms in nature which will enable the inner spiritual reality to emerge.”
The fulfillment of the enormous task begins with the development of the sense of relationship—not only to one’s fellow human beings but to all lives, great and small, that share the Earth. This might seem, quite sensibly, too much to expect of human beings without the aid and stimulation of Gemini. For the Ageless Wisdom says that the love of God reaches our planet through Gemini. The writings of Alice Bailey tell us that Gemini controls the heart of our solar system and thus the pulsation of life which sustains all that is. From these thoughts we realize that we are virtually compelled to love; that the driving force of the universe as we experience it on Earth is love. Human beings are compelled to seek relationship with that which seems to be apart from us, for in Alice Bailey’s words, love is the will to draw into itself or to attract into itself.
The role of the divine Messenger, according to the Ageless Wisdom, is “to comprehend the extremes and to relate them divinely to each other”. How urgently humanity is in need of this capacity at this time, when the force of the extremes seems to be in danger of rending the fabric of human life irreconcilably. imagine the world when the compelling, unifying power of love to draw into itself governs all relations. Words such as opponent, war, separativeness, antipathy, the other, will have to be withdrawn from the vocabulary, to be replaced by universality, goodwill, and invocation. Let us work in meditation to strengthen this realization. I recognize my other self, and in that self, I grow and glow.
