Whenever we see the word “pattern” we usually think it refers to a pattern created by a dressmaker or a garment-maker—a paper pattern laid out on a piece of cloth to be cut and sown to become a beautiful garment for someone to wear. This is true. The dictionary defines a pattern as: “Anything proposed for or worthy of imitation; exemplar; as a pattern for men; anything designed as a guide or model for making things; as a dressmaker’s pattern”.
But there is a more refined and even spiritual way of looking at and understanding the vast process underlying the word pattern. In fact, think of it as a worldwide process being laid out by the so called Master Builder (Deity) on the cutting board of this entire planet. And the “cloth” being laid out on the cutting board involves not just humanity, but all the kingdoms in nature: mineral, vegetable, animal, human and even the future and more refined kingdoms lying ahead. These patterns are therefore: “types of energy which are struggling to emerge into material expression” (Esoteric Psychology Vol. II p. 55). “These patterns are literally divine ideas, as they emerge from the subjective group consciousness and take those mental forms that can be appreciated and appropriated by the mind and brain of man during any particular epoch” (EP Vol. II p. 55). We, therefore, are now living through a period when the “divine ideas” of the Master Builder are in a process of achieving a higher state of refinement. And these “divine ideas” are laid out like a pattern on the cloth or fabric of humanity.
Now one of these major patterns was first laid out two-thousand years ago by the divine message of Christ: basically for humanity to live and express the divine Law of Love-Wisdom—in simple terms to “love thy neighbor as thy self”. This pattern of Love—this type of energy—was placed on the cloth of human consciousness as a divine pattern to be refined. But as we all know, two-thousand years ago, this energy of Love was not divinely expressed very extensively among the people and nations of that era. Wars and conflicts were common, but the new pattern of Love-Wisdom slowly began its refinement process. The Master Builder—working through Christ and the Master Jesus and many other Initiates since then—encouraged many advanced and knowledgeable souls to incarnate into particular countries in order to lift human consciousness more rapidly, especially after the year 1400 AD.
Around that time, the spiritual Initiates could see that a much more rapid change (upward refinement) was needed in human consciousness because a new age was coming—the Aquarian Age; a 2500 year cycle that would succeed the Piscean Age which began around the time of the Christ working through the Master Jesus. This new age would require, in the evolution of human consciousness, a much broader understanding of the world, and above all, a much warmer response to the new inflowing pattern of Love-Wisdom introduced by Christ. It is an energy that was much needed back in the year 1400 AD. And so the spiritual Initiates at that time knew that a more rapid refinement of human consciousness needed to be carried out over the next five hundred years; much more development was needed in the fields of religion, education, the arts, science and government. But to achieve this, more advanced servers would have to incarnate in these fields of service bringing a more rapid stimulation to human consciousness and preparing it to work more directly with the new loving energies of the Aquarian Age.
The following is a brief list of many prominent people who incarnated after 1400 AD. We don’t know if they were encouraged by the spiritual Initiates or not, but their service certainly lifted human consciousness. I won’t go into details about the valuable service they did; great historians have done that.
Johannes Gutenberg 1440—inventor of the printing press; Leonardo da Vinci 1452-1519—science, painting (arts); Christopher Columbus 1446-1506—science,education (the world is round, not flat); Martin Luther 1483-1546—religion, education; William Shakespeare 1564-1616—education, the arts; Galileo 1564-1642—science; Isaac Newton 1643-1727—science; George Frideric Handel 1685-1759—music, the arts; J.S. Bach 1685-1750—music, the arts; Mozart 1756-1791—music, the arts; Haydn 1732-1809—music, the arts; Beethoven 1770-1827—music, the arts; Samuel Adams 1722-1803—government; John Adams 1735-1826—government; Thomas Jefferson 1743-1826—government; James Madison 1751-1836—government.
Now of course, this is only a brief list of many of the more prominent people who devoted their lives to serve in their particular field. I know there are dozens and dozens more that could be added to the list. But did it ever occur to you of the tremendously rapid growth in human consciousness over the past five hundred years, compared to the previous one thousand years, say from 400 AD to 1400 AD? There is a growing development today (2025) of the impact that the energy of Love-Wisdom is having on human consciousness around the world.
What’s really important today is the number of charities that have developed over the past 100-200 years. Here is another brief list: The Red Cross; Salvation Army; Doctors without Borders; Save the Children; Planned Parenthood; etc. etc., there are hundreds more. This indicates that human consciousness is responding more broadly to the energy of Love; to live a life path that responds to the greater wisdom of the Soul. This is a more refined response to the pattern as laid down by the Master Builder. It is closer to that intended by the spiritual Initiates back in 1400 AD. There is today a greater response to the human soul than ever before; humanity’s personality life is lifting up to a higher, more refined, quality of consciousness. “The soul is the quality which every form manifests”; “it makes one man different from another in appearance, nature and character”; “The soul is the force of evolution itself”; as St. Paul said “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (White Magic, p. 33,34,35).
Yes, we should have hope for the glory of the manifestation of the pattern of Love-Wisdom in the coming Aquarian Age; and yes, today the world is seeing much selfishness and hatred still governing some of the nations, and wars and conflicts continue. And “the love of money is the root of all evil” is a strong force trying to gain control. And with all these forces in play today, I am reminded of an ancient Eastern saying in the Bhagavad Gita: “Whenever there is a withering of the Law and an uprising of lawlessness on all sides, then I manifest Myself. For the salvation of the righteous and the destruction of such as do evil, for the firm establishing of the Law, I come to birth in age after age.” There is, of course, a “withering” of many laws today and an “uprising of lawlessness” in many countries all around the world. So the time has now come for the total establishing of this divine Law of Love-Wisdom. And if Christ does make His next appearance in the immediate future, then humanity’s consciousness will be awake and the divine pattern of Love-Wisdom will be strongly expressed and the selfish will be lifted up. Let this be the hope.
