The Planetary Intermediary
The forces of enlightenment, brought to Earth by the Buddha in Taurus, find their release in Gemini through the Christ, the revealer of Love. These two great “Brothers”, as Alice Bailey’s writings call them, represent the highest spiritual achievement attained by humanity to this point in evolution, and thus they embody the potential latent within all human beings. The Buddha and the Christ express the legacy of the full scope of human experience along with the achievement of liberation through alignment with the divine Will, and thus there is nothing in the human condition that lies beyond their understanding and compassion.
The full potential nascent within the human being was expressed in Da Vinci’s famous drawing of Vitruvian Man as a pentagram, a five-pointed star, perhaps reflecting Da Vinci’s response to the impact of the spiritual quickening in the Age of Enlightenment. Man is also mortal, anchored in the world of material forms. The essential duality of humanness cleaves for a long time to material-physical polarity, but at a certain stage in spiritual development, the recognition dawns that the human being is more than “a bag of skin”, in Alan Watts’s incisive words. Much earlier, Meister Eckhart advised, “A man has many skins in himself, covering the depths of his heart. Man knows so many things; he does not know himself…Go into your own ground and learn to know yourself there.” These insights shed light on the keynote of Gemini: I recognize my other self and in the waning of that self, I grow and glow.
In Gemini, with its keen sense of being both human and divine, the role of messenger assumes its intended function: to be the revealer of new truths as the intermediary between the human and spiritual realms. Gemini, as representative of man’s humanity, is able to communicate between worlds. Alice Bailey wrote, “Man, standing as he does at the middle point in evolution, marks the stage in the evolution of consciousness where a triple awareness is possible—of individuality, of subhuman forces, and of a place within the plan and purpose of a greater Life.” The Secret Doctrine affirms that humanity has a special function in saving and regenerating nature. Its destiny is to act as a transmitter of light and spiritual potency (I grow and glow) to the subhuman kingdoms and to provide a channel of communication between “that which is above and that which is below”,
This fluid agility is why Gemini is the sign of the messenger, able on its highest level to “comprehend extremes and relate them to each other”. Gemini contributes to this process by forming with each of the pairs of opposites a third point which transcends them, uniting the pairs on a higher level. Thus the influence of Gemini lies behind every one of the twelve signs, preserving the magnetic interplay between them and fostering the transmutation of each pair into a unity, “for the two must eventually become the One”, Alice Bailey wrote. The thrust of evolution, we’re told, is the task of revelation. To reveal is to make known something secret or hidden, and much is coming to light in these stressful times that had previously been hidden, denied or ignored. For our hope, we’re told that there is present in humanity a quality, a spiritual potential, which will enable the expansion of the sense of awareness and identity “so that all forms present no barrier to the all-embracing spirit”, revealing the “world of seeming” behind outer appearances.
What the ultimate destiny of Earth will be lies beyond our imagination, but esoteric teaching affirms that God or Deity has created the Earth and all that lives within it in order to bring about a synthesis and an integrated system whereby “a tremendous solar revelation can be seen”. Love is the great revealer, and at the full moon of Gemini divine Love pours into the world abundantly.
